HeartSafe First Aid opened in 1999, and is a British Columbia owned and operated private first aid training agency. We are registered as a private training agency with WorkSafe BC.

For Students - Our commitment is to provide the highest level of professional first aid training as we can. We strive to offer you the student relevant training that teaches not only life saving techniques but also a means to obtain or continue employment as a first aid attendant.

For Employers - Our commitment to you, is to provide professional first aid training that is relevant to your WorkSafe BC regulation requirements as well as being cost effective. We strive to help the first aid student, your employee, make informed decisions that both provide a high level of care, and can help reduce your costs.

Our Instructors

Paul Stone – Chief Instructor and founder of HeartSafe First Aid

Paul has been instructing Occupational First Aid courses since 1981, and has been a Licensed Paramedic with the BC Ambulance Service since 1977. In addition to teaching courses for HeartSafe, Paul currently works in the dispatch centre for the BC Ambulance Service. He has taught hundreds of courses and is actively involved in developing new courses and methods of instruction to ensure your students have the best instruction possible. Paul is an Occupational First Aid evaluator, a Red Cross certified instructor for Advanced Marine First Aid and First Responder, and an EMR instructor for the Academy of Emergency Training.

Rob Sutton

Rob has been an OFA attendant in Industry (logging, mining, shipyards, pulp & paper) for 20 years, and an OFA instructor for 13 years. He has been a firefighter for 10 years. He is a Hazmat tech/rail tank-car specialist, swiftwater rescue tech, confined space rescue tech, and high angle/low slope rescue tech. He is a licensed IV endorsed Primary Care Paramedic.

Russell Gaudin

Russell has more than twenty years of experience as a first aid attendant, and has been a WorkSafe BC Occupational First Aid instructor since 2000. He is also a certified fall protection instructor. In addition to his instruction experience, Russell has an extensive background in construction safety, logging, corporate and marine industries.

Jeremy Stone

Jeremy has been an occupational first aid instructor since 2006, and is also a Canadian Red Cross certified instructor for Advanced Marine First Aid, and First Responder. He has completed his Primary Care Paramedic course.

Alison Stevens

Alison comes to us from the world of aquatics, with over 20 years of lifeguarding experience. She has been teaching first aid since 1995 and joined the Heartsafe staff in 2007. She’s still very active in the aquatics community throughout the South Island, as a lifeguard instructor/examiner, first aid instructor-trainer, lifesaving instructor-trainer and Pleasure Craft Operator instructor-trainer. She earned her EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) through Heartsafe and works for BC Ambulance Service as a paramedic.

Lynn Cohoe

Lynn has been working as a safety manager and consultant in the construction industry since 2005. She is an approved WorkSafe BC and Construction Safety Alliance of BC Instructor, as well as a certified Fall Protection Trainer with the Fall Protection Group. She is preparing to write her Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professional (BCRSP) Examination, and is a Director, Pacific Rim Chapter, of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE).
