CNS Pharmacology is a unique 17 credit program designed for all Paramedics.

It consists of a short pre-read and a one day classroom session. In the pre-read you will learn how neurotransmitters and common drugs interact to produce the signs and symptoms we see in our patients. This program is full of high return facts which will help you become expert in the assessment and treatment of complicated cases.
The class room sessions will consist of a question and answer period where we can white board some of the more difficult concepts presented in the pre-read, and show you some video clips to help explain things. Next we will do a number of Simulations ( SIMS ). There will be a pre SIMS briefing to remind you of the relevant patho and pharmacology, then a post SIM debrief to discuss treatment options and best practice. The SIMS are not designed to test your knowledge or skills. They are a chance for you to tackle a difficult call and hone your skill set. They are also designed to stimulate debate and focus the teaching points. No one has to attend if they would rather not as I realize that some learn by doing and some learn by watching. Each SIM has two different treatment options, neither is wrong but one is better. The facilitators will guide you as you discover the safest and most beneficial medical treatment for difficult cases.
