The Canadian Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course is an entry-level Paramedic course that will prepare individuals for employment in a variety of pre-hospital, industrial and first responder settings. The EMR course is designed to provide participants with the basic knowledge and skills to be able to manage any medical and trauma related emergency.
This EMR course also meets the requirements as a prerequisite for the Emergency Medical Assistant Licensing Board (EMALB) licensing practical and written exams in BC.
There are five major parts to this course: 1) The Responder 2) Establishing Priorities of Care 3) Injuries 4) Medical Emergencies and 5) Special Populations and Situations.
This course consists of 80 hours of classroom (practical scenarios) time and an approx. 30 - 35 hour pre-read and workbook completion prior to the start of the course. The course workbook must be completed prior to the start of the course.
Prerequisite: Standard First Aid (16 hours) with CPR C
